Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
Matthew 6:12
Dear Father God,
Father, we choose to forgive our debtors.
We choose to forgive those who have hurt us or wronged us, or who we perceive have done so.
Some have caused huge wounds that have left deep scars.
Others have perhaps hurt our pride.
But we choose to obey you, and we choose to forgive.
Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.
Ephesians 4:32
And when we think the wrong done to us was just too big, just too terrible, too painful, we will remember what Jesus did for us. He was without sin and died on the cross in our place for the terrible things we’ve done.
We choose to obey you and forgive.
For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
Matthew 6:14-15
And when it’s difficult for us to do so, we will still choose to obey you, we will forgive, but we ask for your Holy Spirit to come beside us to enable us to do so.
We ask to forgive in such a way that we no longer think about the wrongs that were done to us. When we forgive the debt, we completely let go never to take it back again. We think of how you forgive us. In Psalm 103 verses 12 it says that as far as the east is from the west so far do you remove our transgressions from us. We want to forgive like you, God.
12 as far as the east is from the west,
so far does he remove our transgressions from us.
Psalm 103:12
We know that that the two greatest commandments are to love you and to love others.
37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
Matthew 22:37-39
But when we love others, we don’t love perfectly like you do. We hurt each other. Help us to be quick to forgive in all our relationships. Let us not wait for the other person, let us quickly ask forgiveness and offer forgiveness, and mend our relationships.
It’s in Jesus name that we pray.
Amen
