What To Do When Life Is Difficult: Seek God

Seeking God in All of Life’s Situations

Reminding Myself to Seek God

Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually!

1 Chronicles 16:11

It has been a difficult winter. My sister was diagnosed with stage 4 of a rare and aggressive form of cancer before Christmas. My chronic physical pain was severe. A cousin died of pancreatic cancer. Then, in February, my sister died. I did not doubt my Savior’s love for me, or for my sister. Too much has happened in my life, my own miracles from God, to have me question His love. But I was not always turning to God for comfort, comfort that He promises to me, to us.

Jesus is the Answer

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life.”

John 14:6a

Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. He is my everything. I look to Him. I look to God.

Jesus Says, “Come to Me.”

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Matthew 11:28-30

When I am exhausted, Jesus whispers, “Come to me, and I will you rest.” When I am burdened, Jesus says softly, “Come to me, and I will give you rest.” When I am overwhelmed, Jesus breathes me, Jesus says, “Come to me, and I will give you rest.” He tells me to take His yoke and learn from him. He assures me that he is gentle and lowly in heart, and that I will find rest for my soul, for His yoke is easy and His burden is light.

Seek God and His Presence

You have said, “Seek my face.” My heart says to you, “Your face, Lord, do I seek.”

Psalm 27:8

I want to seek God and His presence. That’s what I’ve been thinking about. Seeking God. When nothing makes sense: seek God. When I can’t stand my physical pain anymore: seek God. When I am grieving the loss of sister and sadness tries to swallow me: seek God. I don’t need things to make sense. I don’t need my pain to go away. I don’t need my sister to return to this side of heaven. I only need God. He is my one desire. Therefore, I seek Him. I thirst for Him. I long for Him. And He is with me, dwells within me, makes His presence known to me.
