Words of Worth
My siblings and I were assigned different words of worth by my mom. My sister was the pretty one, and yes, she was quite beautiful. One brother was the athletic one, and yes, he was quite good in sports. Another brother was the musical one, and yes, he had natural musical talent and ability. I was the smart one.
Only One Word Allowed
Sadly, you were only allowed to have one word. I was smart. I wasn’t pretty. I wasn’t athletic. And I certainly wasn’t musical. So why am I writing songs?
Who am I to Write Songs?
I am not a very good singer. I do not know how to play any musical instruments. And I cannot read or write music. So, what am I doing writing songs?
God Used My Pain to Draw Me Close
Although I struggle with both emotional and physical pain, God has been so very good to me. God has used my pain to draw me close to him. God has healed, continues to heal me, and will heal me although maybe not on this side of heaven. Through this healing process and because of it, I have found hope and joy. My soul is satisfied as I find ways to delight in my God.
Psalm 37:4
Delight yourself in the Lord,
and he will give you the desires of your heart.
God Puts Songs in My Heart
I wake up with songs in my head, both lyrics and tune. At first it was the entire song. More often now it’s just a verse that I then add to. Who am I to write songs? A daughter of our God and King. God gives me the song, and who am I to argue with God.
Self-conscious and Uncertain
As much as I enjoy this new endeavor, I do not have much confidence in my song writing ability. My tunes are very simple and a bit repetitive. And I just noticed that “You are Holy” and “Always” sound a fair amount alike. But I know it’s a gift from God, and accepting it as such, it is a beautiful and delightful gift. It is fun.
